Compémon Introduction
The Compémon are a personification of the Champlain College Competencies to help you better understand these durable human skills, and how they play a part in a Champlain education.
What are the Compémon?
Put most simply, competency “mascots”. We developed them as a fun and interactive way to learn and remember complex concepts. Each Compémon has three evolutionary stages, signifying increasing levels of expertise and development. The skills roughly correspond to the elements of each competency. By collecting and engaging with the Compémon, we hope you can develop a stronger connection and familiarity with these valuable skills and their place at Champlain.
Why did we create these mascots?
The competencies are often seen as very abstract concepts. By personifying them in the form of these somewhat whimsical creatures, we sought to create easily recognizable characters that build on familiar concepts from popular trading card games.
By imagining the Compémon as growing through different stages, and acquiring new “powers” over time, we hope they illustrate how you will evolve in the Competencies during your time at Champlain. Each stage of the Compémon represents an advance in your skills. This conceptualized learning as an ongoing process, (enhanced by, but not ending in) your Champlain experience. Put another way, it’s a process of leveling up and evolving.
