Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Rubric
The ability to evaluate intersections, influences, and social contexts from a position of shared humanity and openness toward difference, in order to integrate one’s values and belief systems into action.
Description
Like one’s concepts of self, identities and life experiences are affected by social constructs, social positions, and social inequities. Attending to DEI requires that one understand the origins of social constructs and how they affect identities, beliefs, and value systems. Interacting with DEI involves a process of moving from distrust and discomfort, to curiosity and a desire to learn more, to synthesizing perspectives and other ways of knowing and being. One understands that systems, institutions, and resources begin with and are defined by power. One acknowledges their respective power, is mindful of their inherent bias(es), and acts in a way that demonstrates awareness and alignment with their own belief systems.
